we’ve arrived - Day 2

August 14th, 2007

After a long drive on Saturday and Sunday I and a large percentage of the team arrived on Sunday afternoon. The first impressions are very good the organisation appears to be slick with all facilities promised and on time. (I am currently writing this in the team marquee on a wireless network !) The airfield is huge and with a large runway there promises to be sufficient space for spots and the practice this week.

We have set up Camp and most people are settled in Read the rest of this entry »

testing, testing, testing,

August 9th, 2007

Since Preston Capes I have managed to get some vital practice and familiarisation in the chaser. I flew up to Skydrive to do a few tweaks on the Engine - thanks again to Nigel Beale for giving up his time and expertise.  Fitting into the machine has been the major challenge so that I feel a little happier - I have radically trimmed my map board and done a few other changes to the positioning of the fuel tank. Preston Capes - nationals
After another brief flight in the chaser on Friday night I set off for Preston Capes near Daventry for the last round of the British Nationals before the Worlds. Conditions were far from ideal and blustery conditions meant for a long flight there. I had been warned about the runway and its gradient but upon arrival it was worse than feared Read the rest of this entry »

testing testing testing — Chaser update

July 23rd, 2007

Flew the the chaser tonight and had some encouraging flights in it , took a while to acclimatise to the space (lack of ) and also how close you are to the ground, the machine ran well and I am hoping to get some airtime in before the weekend. The pictures show how small the chaser is - especially in relation to my 6ft frame

ABCT support Worlds Bid

July 23rd, 2007

The airfields of britain conservation trust (ABCT) is supporting my World championship aspirations by linking to this website. Personally benefiting from use of a former airfield makes all the difference to my flying. Only last night having a choice of runways made a difference and more importantly the runways were not flooded ! Welcome to any visitors from the ABCT website, please read around the site to find out about the sport and how Microlighting benefits from using these fantastic spaces. The ABCT website - see bottom left for mention ! abct.png

chaser ! competitive machine at last

July 17th, 2007

sd_img_cr.gifGreat news - a big thank you to Nigel Beale of Skydrive who are loaning me a Chaser 508 for the worlds. This is going to make a massive difference and should make me more competitive. The race is now on to prepare it and become familiar with it before Czech, the last nationals are in less than two weeks so this is an ideal opportunity to fly it before then. thanks again skydrive. Picture below- shows how diminutive it is - the definitive machine to have for single seat and with a four stroke even better. Can’t wait !
